Image
This is very inspiring to me, as I love art.  There are all kinds of art.   My mother, Ruth Allen Miles wrote beautiful poetry, and today the page views for # 95, her poems, reached 200, my all time record of page views. This was an article on ldsliving.com  If you want to go to:  (copy and paste) http://ldsliving.com/story/68455-photo-gallery-the-artwork-of-president-packer That link takes you to an online art gallery with more art by Pres. Today I am re-posting # 123, which is about preparing spiritually for General Conference.   I am making a few changes, to make it fit this time of the year, as it was originally posted on April 3, 2014. -------------------------------------------------------- Posted originally: 03 Apr 2014 06:11 AM PDT -- the following: This morning I read a blog I follow called "The Small Seed", and it has great ideas for preparing for our General Conference, which is in just 4 days!   (Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th.)  I have edited  this some, but her ideas are great if you'd like to use any of them.   I have added highlights of my own -- Pal In April it could be found at  http://www.thesmallseed.com/   General Conference: Take 2     (Her title)       (I feel like this means we should take time out of our busy schedules to refill our "spiritual cups".  I plan to watch all of it, including --...

237. What idols do we worship today? Pres. Spencer W. Kimball gives wonderful counsel.

Image
Today was a particularly interesting entry in Latter Day Devotion.  I decided to include the calendar of what happened in the Church  on this day in history.   What idols do we worship in our daily lives?  President Kimball gives such a good description of what could be idols.   Right now, before Conference, is a good time for us all to really go through some soul searching, and be ready to receive the counsel from our leaders this coming weekend.    Latter Day Light DAILY DEVOTION _________________________ Modern Idolatry Nauvoo, Illinois September 29, 2014 SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Doctrine & Covenants  1:16 "They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which sha...

236. My musical biography -- for musichousepublications.com

Image
I was asked to write a musical biography for "Music House Publications", where I have some music on the internet.  I decided to use that as my entry today.  I hope it is interesting to you readers.                                 MUSIC RUNS IN MY VEINS ! I was blessed to be born to two very musical people, as their first child.  My father, Orson Pratt Miles, had a beautiful tenor voice, and my mother Ruth Allen Miles, had a beautiful soprano voice.   Pratt, as my father was called, grew up in St. George, Utah, without the convenience of television, radio or movies, and groups of young people loved to get together and sing.    On his Church mission to Tennessee he sang in duets and quartets.  One quartet sang over the biggest radio station in Memphis, Tennessee.  He brought a duet music book home from Tennessee and while working in a Church group with Ruth Allen, a...

235. Ideas on how to get your children and family interested in Family History!

Image
I quite enjoyed this article I read in Meridian Magazine.  It gives good ideas of how you can get your children interested in genealogy, family history, and the stories of their ancestors.  I have loved this work since I was about 16 years old, and I spent many hours copying the old long family group sheets on an old copy machine, which my aunts had sent in over the years.  It is a very intense feeling to realize you are the "keeper of the stories" of Family History.  I truly felt that after my parents had passed away.   It is actually strange to be of the oldest generation alive in your family.  Hopefully one day, each of you will live long enough to have that challenge and blessing. It's a fascinating study of the lives ...
