430. 2 Inspiring LDS Stories from Burundi, from www.ldsmissionaries.com. Great stories! Elder L. Tom Perry's funeral today at 11 a.m., will be on TV.

We've heard the missionaries have been taken out of Burundi because of civil unrest.  I read there are about 500 members in 3 congregations there.  We need to keep them in our prayers. I found this in www.ldsmissionaries.com.  It is really interesting! 2 Inspiring LDS Stories from Burundi Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve pronounced a blessing upon the country of Burundi in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa. (Image via www.ldschurchnewsarchive.com) Burundi is in the news right now because of the political unrest. The reports and pictures are disturbing, and many members of the LDS Church may know very little about the country except that it’s in Africa, and the missionaries have been evacuated. Here at LDS Missionaries we believe in the spirit of optimism, especially when it comes to missionary work. When we report on missionaries who have been evacuated for any reason, our hope is that the news will inspire prayers and hop...

330. The Blessings Promised if you "Open Your Mouth". And some personal experiences!

Image
My husband, Wayne, is a true missionary at heart!  He doesn't hesitate to "open his mouth" at all.   We have had several experiences in which he has opened his mouth, and talked to whomever -- a man he ran into in a store, a girl who cut his hair at a salon, a repairman who came to our home to repair something -- He loves to find out if they are a member, and if not, to share something positive about the Gospel.  He doesn't plan what he will say, he just starts a conversation!  Sometimes the things he says surprise me, and I wonder if he may offend people.                       Wayne's official missionary picture taken in 1950 One such incident I particularly remember is one time, (when he was a stake missionary, which he was several times) he was walking somewhere in a housing area, and saw a man putting rocks down, in place of grass.  Wayne asked him why he was doing that -- just a simple quest...

216. Elder Bednar's talk about using social media! My upcoming operation!

I HOPE YOU ARE USING THE "TRANSLATE" OPTION IF YOU READ A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE!  iT IS ON THE LEFT SIDE UNDER "POPULAR POSTS" It is now Saturday evening August 23, 2014, here in St. George, Utah.  On Monday morning, August 25th, day after tomorrow, I will be having a rotator cuff shoulder operation.  A tendon in my right shoulder has completely broken off from my shoulder bone, and the surgery will repair it.  I appreciate all who have been reading my blogs, and I have collected a few really good articles that hopefully you will enjoy.  I will be putting them on every day or two during my recovery, and now and then I'll tell how I'm doing.  I'm so grateful for modern medicine and surgical techniques.  I often wonder what pioneers were able to do with a problem like this.  I have been told that it won't heal itself, and I had a choice -- to just live with it, and it probably will continue to get worse, or to have the surgery.  Pioneers didn't...

214. Article by Robert L. Millet, about 5 myths believed about the Second Coming.

This is an interesting article written by Robert L. Millet.  I thought readers would find it interesting, as I did. 5 Second Coming Myths and the Truth Behind Them ROBERT L. MILLET  When will the Second Coming be and how can we prepare for it? Find out the truth behind 5 myths about Christ's return to earth. In working as a religious educator for almost four decades, I have been delighted to witness a significant rise in what might be called scriptural literacy or gospel scholarship among the young people of the Church. This is a tribute to devoted mothers and fathers, advisers and teachers, seminary and institute instructors. Our members are simply more capable and adept at utilizing the standard works in finding answers to their questions, seeking divine guidance, and explaining or defending the teachings of the restored gospel to those not of our faith.  And yet, there are certain misleading concepts, unsupportable ideas—myths—that persist among our me...
