1213. Latter-day Saint Nurse Shares Experience Treating COVID-19 in New York City, in LDS Living

Image
I have a daughter and granddaughter who are both nurses.  I believe I would have loved being a nurse!  My mother always wanted to be a nurse, and in those days you had to travel far away to get training, and she couldn't do that, so she was an amazing school teacher for 40 years!        I was so busy raising nine children, I wouldn't have had time, but perhaps I did qualify as a nurse on one or two occasions!   This article is really heartwarming, for many to fly into New York City to help.   We all hope this is resolved much sooner, than later!  My son-in-law went through a 6 hour operation on his injured elbow today!  Prayers are a help!   Thank You, dear people who are a ll kinds of  medical workers!   Latter-day Saint Nurse Shares Experience Treating COVID-19 in New York City by Morgan Jones  | Apr. 23, 2020 I’ve thought a lot about those on the frontline...

Image
This was written last September, after the Hurricane Harvey which was so devastating to those in Texas, and other states.   Other natural and other disasters will continue to happen, sadly.  But there are great ideas here on how to respond, and help.  Hopefully this will be a safe and peaceful winter, and                                           Happy New Year ,  but we want to be able to truly help our beloved fellowmen, especially those who will, and already are, suffering in some way. Thoughts on Responding to Disasters & Changing the World Aleah Ingram   September 1, 2017   F rom LDS Daily --  in Meridian Magazine This past week, I’ve received numerous invites to fundraising events to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey. It has truly been inspiring to see people around the world band together to help t...

Isn't this just amazing!  And also not a surprise!  It gives me such peace to know what our wonderful Church does to help people in crisis! "I Knew the Mormons Would Come": LDS Missionaries Begin Cleanup Work in Houston after Hurricane, Floods by LDS Living Staff  | Sep. 01, 2017 Mormon Life Comments LDS missionaries in Houston are aiding in massive cleanup efforts from the destruction of Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding.  In a Facebook post by the Texas Houston South Mission, President Hall described these missionaries' efforts and the lasting impact they've had on those they serve.  Dear Parents, All missionaries are in safe and accounted for this evening. Today we entered the clean up phase of our relief efforts. Rest assured that we do not have missionaries go into any homes that have standing water. Remarkably, as fast as the floods came, the water has retreated just as quickly. I wanted ...

778. Will Your Kids Be Compassionate Adults? By Joni Hilton · January 4, 2017, in Meridian Magazine

This is such a good article!  I think we have such compassionate people in my ward!  In Relief Society last Sunday they passed around a paper for sisters to donate food for a funeral to be held Wednesday, yesterday.  I signed up to bring cookies, and on Tuesday I got a call telling me they had so many people sign up to bring food they didn't need my donation.  When my husband Wayne passed away, our ward donated a dinner for over 125 people, and I wanted to help return the favor.    Will Your Kids Be Compassionate Adults? Some of us have interpreted this to mean that you wait until you’re silvery-haired to do genealogy or be a temple worker. And when I was raising my four children, I often heard people say, “Just focus on your childr...

This article is about someone helping in the recent flooding in Louisiana.  It gives such an interesting account of how the Church organizes and helps in disaster situations.  I hope we all help anytime we have the opportunity! Being a Mormon Helping Hand in the Louisiana Floods By Carolyn Allen  · September 4, 2016 in Meridian Magazine Cover image via LDS Newsroom. Much has been written about the mid-August 2016 flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Though the news of it was slow to hit the media, by now the bizarre conditions that created it, the 11 deaths, the extensive damage to homes and businesses, the billions of dollars of catastrophic damage, and the monumental number of volunteers arriving to “muck out” homes and businesses are starting to surface. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced this past weekend that there is now an estimated 8.7 billion dollars in damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure throughout the ar...
