I first posted this last December 26th, 2016.  It is so fascinating!  The exciting thing is that in April I am going on a tour to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel!  On April 21, 2018, I will be visiting Petra with the group which includes many dear old friends I've known for many years -- Gloria and Tom Shakespeare, and some of their family!  This will be a dream come true for me! Written by Dr. John L. Lund December 6, 2016 When you go to Israel, also plan a stop at Petra, Jordan.  It may be the home of two of the “wise men”. No one knows for sure how many wise men went to Bethlehem to honor Jesus as the newborn king of the Jews. Tradition says there were three wise men and there may have been. We do know that the wise men came from the east of Bethlehem “following yonder star.” However they did not arrive on the night that Jesus was born. The New Testament was originally written in Greek....

A must watch (or record) on Thanksgiving Day!  Read all about it! BYUtv Premieres Docudrama Joan of Arc: A Story of Spiritual Power and Angelic Visitations By Maurine Proctor  · November 24, 2015, by Meridian Magazine The 80-minute docudrama,  Joan of Arc,  will premiere on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26 at 6 p.m. at MT/8p.m. ET on BYUtv, followed by a 10-minute behind-the-scenes special. It will continue to appear on the television station several more times during the holiday season. BYUtv has created a stunning docudrama about a stunning life that is not to be missed in its several showings in the next weeks. Joan of Arc is a global household name, but outside of France most of us have only the vaguest idea about who she was or why she went unflinchingly and with towering conviction to be burned at the stake in May of 1431. Yet as writer, director and co-producer of the film Russ Holt notes, “It is not a stretch to say that the wo...

This was on LDS Living, on Dec. 10, 2014.  Very Interesting! What Do We Know About The Wise Men - Who Came To Honor Jesus? Written by Dr. John L. Lund 2014-12-10 When you go to Israel, also plan a stop at Petra, Jordan.  It may be the home of two of the "wise men". We do know that the wise men came from the east of Bethlehem "following yonder star." However they did not arrive on the night that Jesus was born. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. Understanding which English words the King James translators chose to use to reflect the meaning in Greek is important. Eight times in Matthew 2:8-21 the words "young child" are used when talking about the wise men looking for Jesus. The Greek word used is "pad ion" and young child is the best tra...

292. World and Church History Connections, from 1830 to 1898.

For whose who love history, this is quite interesting! World and Church History Connections You Didn’t Learn in School JANNALEE ROSNER -  November 22, 2014, in LDS Living Ever wondered what was going on in the world while Joseph Smith was translating, or when the Salt Lake Temple was dedicated? We've done the research for you and found some surprising connections in 19th-century world and church history. Keep an eye out next week for events from the 20th century in part two! History classes for most of us were all about world events or the history of the country we lived in while church history was only learned, well, in church. But we never really put them together. When you place these two timelines side by side, you may be surprised to find out that Brigham Young sent the first transcontinental telegraph message the same year that the Civil War started , or that the first latter-day Quorum of the 12 was organized the same year famous author Mark Twain was b...
