This article, if read and understood, makes so much sense, and has wisdom! The pandemic highlights a logical fallacy that, unless checked, could prove our undoing By  Sharlee Mullins Glenn  · June 23, 2020 The following first appeared in the  Deseret News . We see it everywhere. Either you’re pro-NRA or anti-Second Amendment. If you have compassion for undocumented workers, you don’t uphold the law. Either you want to see Roe v. These are examples of an unfortunately rampant logical fallacy — the either/or fallacy (sometimes called “false dilemma” or “false dichotomy”). This kind of fallacy builds an argument on the assumption that there are only two options when, in fact, there are several, if not many. This kind of over-simplistic bifurcation is not only misleading, but can be divisive, damaging and downright dangerous. Too often it p...

This is such a dramatic example of living faith, which happened just last month during the beginning of the Corona Virus saga! In the Time of the Virus: The Parting of my Personal Red Sea By  Lynne Perry Christofferson  · April 15, 2020 Photography by John Derek Perry. There will be many stories told of this time–of the days when a powerful virus jumped oceans and swept across continents. When life as we knew it came to a shuddering halt, and we incorporated new phrases into our vocabulary: social distancing, self-quarantine. Though my own story is not earthshaking, I feel compelled to tap it out in sentences that will one day speak to my grandchildren, telling them of the parting of my personal Red Sea in the time of the virus. I awoke Thursday, March twelfth, in a hotel in Casablanca, having arrived in Morocco with my brother John just the night before. Squinting at my phone to check the time, I found a text from my oldest son: “Did you he...

Sometimes it’s a relationship, life in general, elusive goals, a stale testimony— many of us hit such snags when we realize we’re just not going anywhere. We just suddenly realize we don’t enjoy our job. Or we’ve lost the motivation to work on our marriage. We feel flat when it comes to spirituality. Maybe the future looks dismal. We’re in a rut. Usually we look around for the cause—it is our upbringing? Is this someone else’s fault? Is it bad luck? Circumstances? Just the way life goes? Surprisingly, it’s often us. Though it’s hard to admit, sometimes the reason is because we’ve become our own worst enemy. Without even realizing it, we get in our own way. And it can happen without our awareness. We pray for God to intervene and create ...

These words of wisdom were published in Meridian Magazine on Thanksgiving Day.  We all were so busy, I saved it for a day like today!  Have a good one! Largely because I knew I wasn’t properly acquainted with the material that would be included in that quiz. Ughh. Other times, it didn’t phase me.
