1317. The men in our family who served in the Military.

Image
In this post I will mention 3 of my great-grandfathers who were in the Mormon Battalion, in 1846-1847.  They served in what was then called the "Mexican War".  Samuel Miles, Haden Wells Church, and George Deliverance Wilson.  Haden Wells Church All three of these great grandfathers were pioneers -- Samuel Miles and Haden Wells Church were called to St. George, the Dixie Mission, in the St. George Area, in 1861, with no refrigeration!  And George Deliverance Wilson was a pioneer in several towns, because he was called to several towns recently settled, to start a sawmill there.  Of 11 children, they were born in 7 different towns!  They were brave, and left us all a great heritage.  If you look in "labels" you can read more of their life stories.  I first published this below years ago!  Today I want to honor these dear men who served in the Military.  We haven't had anyone be killed in a war, but it did have an effect on them, especially...

1034. Memories of my husband Wayne, and his twin brother Blaine, my father, and our son who have been in the military!

Today I have been thinking a lot about my husband, Wayne D Eckman, and our lives together, and happy memories.  I want to post this again in his honor, and also my father who was in World War I, and our son Allen who was in the United States Air Force for 6 years, as a navigator on a re-fueling plane. I wrote this first on November 10, 2017. 9 43. The men in our family who are or have been veterans! We are proud of their service. I am recuperating from a foot operation, so in honor of Veteran's Day I will mostly post photos in this entry, of my husband Wayne and his twin brother Blaine when they were in the army in 1953 to 1955 during the Korean war time, but were in Europe; my father Orson Pratt Miles who was in World War I, and our son Allen, who was in the Air Force 6 years, and served during Desert Storm as a navigator in a refueling airplane. 752. The Gift of Oneself, by Daris Howard, in Meridian Magazine today. About a World War II Veteran.

I just read this touching story which is about a World War II veteran, and today is Pearl Harbor Day so  I am posting 2 entries today .  The picture below is of my own dear father, Orson Pratt Miles, in his World War I uniform.  It left him disabled the rest of his life with what was then called "Shell Shock", now Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. My father, Orson Pratt Miles, in World War I. The lesson was titled “Caring and Sharing,” but I heard little of it. Then the teacher said something that caught my attention. “As you rush through your busy life this time of year, remember what this season is all about. It is about giving. And the most important thing you can give is your time to...

283. Veteran's Day, and about my father Orson Pratt Miles in World War I, and my husband Wayne, during the Korean War.

Today I'm honoring my father, Orson Pratt Miles, who was in World War I, and also my husband, Wayne D Eckman, who was in the army during the Korean War.  But Wayne didn't go to Korea -- instead, he and his twin brother Blaine were sent to Europe.  I'm posting an entry about my father, and you can find more about him in posts #;s 153, 33, 34, 37, 227, 28, 7, 85 -- (and others.)  He is listed under "Miles Orson Pratt", in the "Labels" and also under "My father Pratt".  I probably should have them all together! My father Pratt was a very sensitive soul, and he was on the front lines, either in France or Germany -- I'm not sure which.  But the "shell shock" left him with a full disability, and he had poor health the rest of his 84 years.  Also my husband, Wayne, was never on front lines, but he and his twin brother served in Trieste, and Austria, and were blessed to never have to actually fight.  There are posts about him and B...
