1246. How should we respond if we think a former prophet said something wrong? By Mark A. Mathews, in Meridian Magazine

This is so powerful, we ALL should read it! How should we respond if we think a former prophet said something wrong? By  Mark A. Mathews  · July 9, 2020 Cover image via history.churchofjesuschrist.org. In the current climate of historical figures being attacked, some have taken their aim at some of our early prophets and sought to vilify them for their perceived mistakes or weaknesses. But, how should faithful saints today look at possible mistakes of these inspired prophets of the past? Many years ago, I was studying a doctrinal topic in the BYU Library when I came across an old discourse from an early church leader. As I read the talk, I quickly recognized that what I was reading was not doctrinally correct. I knew it was wrong because it contradicted the standard works and the teachings of living prophets. I was confused how this early Apostle, who was usually so inspired and instructive, could have taught something that was wrong. As I refl...

575. St. George East Stake Conference, Jan. 9th and 10th, from my memory and my notes.

Image
We had a wonderful Stake Conference this last weekend, January 9th and 10th, 2016.  We didn't have anyone from outside our stake come, but those who did speak gave many inspirational thoughts and ideas.  Our last Stake Conference was August 8th and 9th, 2015, and we had Elder David A. Bednar as a visiting authority.  You can find notes in blog #474, August 11, 2015. Our chapel is just across the street, east of this beautiful St. George Temple.  We can see the top spire from the window in our front door! Saturday evening, I didn't take notes, but I do have some memories of special talks by President and Sister Center, who are soon to be released from being the President and wife of the St. George South Mission -- I believe that is the name of it.  Sister Center gave some very interesting and thoughtful ideas on how to prepare your son or daughter for missionary work.  The first idea she presented was to teach them how to WORK!  She encouraged p...

The modern ideal of love is full of golden light and warm feelings. But Heavenly Father is not content with superficial emotion. He wants something more substantial, so He gives us families where we are challenged to move...

Image
President Gordon B. Hinckley had a lot of great things to say, particularly regarding how we can be happy in life. So here’s a compilation of tips from him!  This was on LDS Living on Dec. 3, 2014, and written by Samantha Shelley. 10 Happiness Tips From Gordon B. Hinckley BY  SAMANTHA SHELLEY  · DECEMBER 3, 2014 from LDS living 1. The purpose of life is to be happy! Life is to be enjoyed, not endured. Adam fell so that we might have joy! Don’t forget that when life gets busy or stressful or overwhelming. If you aren’t happy, you probably need to make some changes so you will be! 2. Happiness cannot be achieved if we are selfish or constantly complaining! Generally speaking, the most miserable people I know are those who are obsessed with themselves; the happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others…By and large, I have come to see that if we complain about life, it is because we are thinking only of ourselves...
