1121. What a Stranger's Prayer in an Emergency Room Taught One Latter-day Saint Dad About Miracles, in LDS Living, by Nate Checketts

This story, in LDS Living today, is such an inspiration, and I wanted to share it with you dear readers.  It made me shed a few tears! What a Stranger's Prayer in an Emergency Room Taught One Latter-day Saint Dad About Miracles by Nate Checketts  | Apr. 12, 2019 Makes You Think Mormon Life The following has been published in full with permission from Nate Checketts.  Four weeks ago was without question the scariest night of my life. It has taken me that long to revisit in detail that night and the events that followed it. I have made several attempts, facing down the blinking cursor but unable to get through the memories without fear and worry filling me again and leaving me in a state of panic. But as I have reflected on the experience again and again, it has been clear to me that it is meant to be shared. Not because I have any desire to draw attention to us as a family, but because I have felt prompted to do so a...

626. Tragedies that happened to my Grandmother, and about my dear mother Ruth -- fascinating stories!

Image
One of my favorite stories of my dear mother's life.  It is such an inspiration in many ways.  I hope you enjoy it again, if you already have read it.  I noticed this was read 2 times yesterday, and often when an old entry was read by someone, I go back and read it again myself.  I felt this was worth repeating!  I posted many family history stories early on in this blog.  I may repeat some that you haven't read lately. This was originally # 140, and posted on April 30, 2014, just over 2 years ago. This touching story is told by my mother Ruth in her journal:  (It brought tears to my eyes just reading it again -- ) My mother Ruth Allen Miles, about 1974. Two main tragedies happened during my last year at Dixie, both involving my mother.  Just before  Thanksgiving we were expecting George to come home.  Mother was alone and either fell or perhaps fainted  and fell between the stove and the wall.  On the stove was a...

294. Reposting # 13, a year ago today, "Divine Protection Again, and Again, and Again!

Image
I'm reposting an entry I posted a year ago today, on November 24, 2013, with some updates and more photos.  The accident mentioned in the first paragraph happened a year ago yesterday.     I'm so grateful for Divine Protection!  We have been the grateful recipients many times! I'm beginning this post at 5:30 a.m. (written November 24, 2013) because I can't sleep!  Our daughter, Anita,  and her 3 sons, Sam, Jake, and David, borrowed our car to go to California to visit the oldest son Sam's Mission, and people he knew there.  This is our daughter Anita, who was traveling with her 3 sons, Sam, Jake, and David.  Ben was already in Taiwan on his mission. Sam came home on October 29th, and as all good missionaries do, has missed the dear people he knew and taught.  They borrowed our car, and left yesterday about 10 a.m.  As they were within minutes of their destination, there was a 3 car collision, where they were the 3rd car. ...

140. Ruth's mother Levinah's accidents, (tear jerking) and Ruth's graduation from Dixie.

This touching story is told by my mother Ruth in her journal:  (It brought tears to my eyes just reading it again -- ) Two main tragedies happened during my last year at Dixie, both involving my mother. Just before  Thanksgiving we were expecting George to come home. Mother was alone and either fell or perhaps fainted  and fell between the stove and the wall. On the stove was a pot of boiling beans which tipped over and dripped over her, burning her badly, particularly around the breast area of her body. Oh, the agony  she went through with this! During this ordeal was my final weeks and months of teacher training , final exams, etc., during which time M other's friend whom we lovingly called Aunt Amy Haycock came down daily to sit and take care of her while I was in school. I guess that all my life I had heard of my mother's dear friend, Amy LeFevre Haycock, but it was not until March 1928 , when the tragedy of mother's wreck struck our family, that I fully r...

113. Levinah Emmaline Wilson, my mother Ruth's mother. Widow for 32 years.

Levinah Emmaline Wilson , or “Emm” was born down on “The Muddy”, St. Thomas, Nevada, as it was called, on April 14, 1870.   It was covered now Lake Mead.    She was born in a dirt floored and dirt roofed house.  Her father had been called there to start a saw-mill.  She told the story, as it had been told to her, that at her birth it was raining,  (a rare thing for that section), and that sisters had to hold pans over the bed to catch the rain water, during her birth process.   Only the tops of a few trees used to show through the lake to show where the town had been.   It since is uncovered now due to the lake having less water.   Her father was George Deliverance Wilson, and her mother was Martha Ann Riste.   She was the 7th child out of eleven.  There were eight boys and three girls.  Aunt Martha was 10 years older than Mother and quite sickly.  Aunt Sadie was 8 years younger, so Levinah had brothers both younger and...
