This blog of my mother's poems was the favorite for 2 or 3 years!  I posted it 4 years ago on Feb. 12, 2014, just about 3 months after I started this blog.   It was read more times than any at that time.        It came up on Facebook, and I want to share it again! My mother, Ruth Allen Miles, was a gifted soprano, teacher, mother, and also a poetess!   She wrote quite a few lovely poems, and I have a few of them.  I will include the poems I have in this blog.  She was born on May 10, 2908, and passed away on Feb. 10, 1999 -- just 3 months before she would have turned 91 years old!  She was gracious and refined up to the very last!            This is Mother, about 85 years old.  Her noble character shows in her face!      While Ruth was teaching at Salt Lake City, the winter of 1945-1946, and going to the U. Of U. she was summoned to her sister Adelia’s back in the sm...

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2016 766. Today is the Prophet Joseph Smith's birthday! 212 years ago today he was born! I also reaffirm my testimony this year, 2017! This year, 2016, I reconfirm my testimony which has been shared 4 times now -- 2013, 2014, 2015, and now 2016. I have loved the Prophet Joseph Smith, and learning about him as long as I can consciously remember!   I was born of goodly parents who also loved him and taught me of him.  I love to read of his life and teachings.  I know that he is a true prophet!  This same entry was posted on his birthday since I started this post in 2013 (with alterations each year).  I hope you enjoy reading it!  (in 2014) I hope whoever reads this has a few minutes to ponder these testimonies about the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose birthday is today.  Part of these words were written last year on this day, and probably will again ne...

679. Gordon B. Hinckley’s Day of Decision. Is today our day of decision?

Image
This story of President Gordon B. Hinckley's Day of Decision, reminds me of my dear mother and a situation from our past.  My dear sister Vina Ruth, about age 37, was diagnosed with lung cancer.  She had never smoked, etc., and it was truly a disheartening prospect.  That was well over 40 years ago, when chemo therapy was just beginning.  She had chemo for almost a year, and was so sick and nauseated almost the whole time. My mother Ruth Allen Miles, when she was in college, in late 1920's. She still had 3 sons she was raising, and my mother Ruth Allen Miles, made a decision.  She promised Heavenly Father that if He would allow Vina to survive and recover from this cancer, she (Ruth) would do all the good she could, to every person she could, in every way and at every time in her life that she could.  She truly kept that part of her "day of decision".And my dear sister Vina has now reached the ripe old age of 80 years old, and going quite strong! Y...
