‘This looks like something straight from Salt Lake!’ 1 missionary’s crazy impressive video editing By  Emily Abel   November 17, 2021 04:09 PM MST tter Pinterest Email Print Missionaries in Syracuse, New York, are using cameras, stabilizers, microphones, and even drones as they create videos to share the gospel. YouTube screenshot “You need to put at the beginning that this was produced by missionaries—because this looks like something straight from Salt Lake!” That is what a bishop in the New York Syracuse Mission said when he saw the video Elder Jared Bender created encouraging member missionary work. And we couldn’t agree more. From the high video and audio quality to the creative edits and easy to follow dialogue, this video created by Elder Bender and his fellow missionaries could easily be mistaken as something produced by a seasoned professional on the Church’s payroll. Elder Bender from San Diego, California, loved making videos for social media before his missi...

1173. Colorizing old black and white photos! And my Family History Mission now!

Image
Hello, dear readers!  February 16, 2020. It has been too long since I've written a new blog, and I'm going to try and change!  My excuse -- I began serving 2 shifts a week, on Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Layton FamilySearch Center, just about 15 miles north of where I live in West Bountiful.   My mother, Ruth Allen Miles, in college, in the 1920's. Colorized from a beautiful old black and white photo. To serve here, I needed to take 12 classes, 90 minutes each, to begin training to be able to help patrons who come there.  I took most of those classes back in November, but some in January, and I began serving on January 13th.   I absolutely LOVE IT !  I love the many things I'm learning about technology, and what has been inspired for our day, and finding our ancestors, and relatives.  I particularly love being able to put in photos and comments on the Person Page of dear ones who have passed on.  I've put many pictures ...

690. 10 Ways to Have More Calm in Your Life, by Rynna Ollivier, in Meridian Magazine

Image
This is right on target!  Great ways to be more calm!  I have had some wonderful family experiences this last week, and will write about them next. 10 Ways to Have More Calm in Your Life By Rynna Ollivier  · August 30, 2016 Recently at a community outreach health conference the guest speaker, a highly regarded doctor at a major medical center, talked about how he has treated more patients with stress related illnesses in the last five years than in his entire medical career. The list of ailments was extensive and troubling. Conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, asthma, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, eating disorders, gastrointestinal problems, diabetes, headaches, chronic body aches, autoimmune disease and Alzheimer’s are now believed to have a major stress component to them. According to  research  published in the  Journal of the American Medical Association , sixty to eighty percent of all phy...

642. Digital Dangers: How You Can Protect Your Children. Summer coming, more free time, and this is important!

Image
With summer coming, it is important to be able to set limits on children's digital time.  These are great suggestions for parents to know how to help their children avoid many problems. Digital Dangers: How You Can Protect Your Children By Nicholeen Peck  · May 25, 2016, in Meridian Magazine While sitting at an airport I saw a darling girl, maybe age 14, sitting on a different row of seats than the rest of her family. The parents and brother were talking and trying to engage her in their activities and conversation, but she was in her own little world and would not participate. For hours she sat looking at her phone with a smile on her face and ear buds in her ears. When parents see such a smile on the 14-year-old’s face, many may think the girl is engaged in something good for herself. But I saw missed opportunities and potential problems. She was living in a digital world instead of a real world, and she was missing a great opportunity to ...

551. Push Away from the Table -- Electronically speaking, and wisdom for the family!

Image
In this age of technology, it is easy to become consumed by it , and it may take up our time more than it should.  Here are good ideas for Christmas, and every day! Friday Minute: Push Away From the Table By Wm J. Monahan  · December 3, 2015, from Meridian Magazine My dad used to say, “Push away from the table while you’re still a little hungry.” Pushing away is also sage advice for those willing to restrict the glut of media and entertainment overeating. In a feeding frenzy of high-fat entertainment and lewd low-fashion disguised as virtual virtue, the world is digesting itself. The more it feeds, the more it needs. While many are enamored with sizzle over substance and the latest gadgets and platforms, content and message still matter. Protecting your family from electronic overload is essential. The problem with addiction to the virtual world is that real addiction is not virtual. I am not suggesting the elimination of electronic devices, the Inte...

471. LDS Church's #IAmAPioneer Campaign Recognizes Past and Present Pioneers. You can contribute your story!

Image
How appropriate this is for July 24th, in just 3 days!  This is for all you readers who have pioneer ancestors , or you are a pioneer in your own family, or country.  You can send in your own story! Today I begin a training period so I can go back to our local Family History Center, and be a volunteer to help others.  From about 1992 to 2011, I volunteered, and 2 times served a 1 year mission there.  But since then, there are so many new things in technology that I need to catch up!   I took a class recently on how to upload photos and other memories on to Family Search, in Family Tree, and I have had so much fun doing that!  Both Wayne and I have had health problems over the last year or two, but we are at a time things are going better, and I want to get back to one of the things I love most -- FAMILY HISTORY, AND GENEALOGY! ! ! LDS Church’s #IAmAPioneer Campaign Recognizes Past and Present Pioneers From Mormon News Room. The Church of Jesus...
