I am posting today a story about Hyrum Dayton,Wayne's 2nd great grandfather, a true and faithful pioneer -- his mother's Dayton line.  This was first published on January 11, 2014, over 3 years go as # 67.  Happy Valentine's Day to all you folks, and a year ago today, Wayne was in the hospital with bleeding --   This will be my story today about Wayne -- showing he came from very faithful pioneer stock.  Wayne had such a work ethic, and this shows  some of his heritage!  His father also was a hard worker, and supported his family of 9 children in the Great Depression by taking whatever jobs he could. Wayne's mother Gladys Tregenna Dayton about age 19. Wayne's dear parents, Gladys, and Roy Waldamer Eckman I have written about several of my ancestors, but not many yet of my husband Wayne's ancestors.  His mother was Gladys Tregenna Dayton, and her Dayton great grandfather was a very early convert, baptized on February 18, 1832.  He wa...

William Chamberlain and his wife Mary Allen Chamberlain were the great grandparents of Gladys Tregenna Dayton Eckman.  Anne Chamberlain, mentioned below, became the wife of Hiram Miles Dayton, and was Gladys's grandmother.   Hiram's father's history is told about in blog # 67.  William Chamberlain was born 27th October, 1815, in Ewelme, Oxfordshire, England. He was married November 12, 1836 to Mary Allen, born 1 Jan 1815, also born in Oxfordshire, England . They spent the first part of their married life in England where Mary gave birth to John 1838; Henry, 1840; Elizabeth, 1842;  and Joseph in 1844, who died at 11 months of age.  They lived near Oxford, which has the oldest university in the English speaking world.  As the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II...

GLADYS TREGE NNA DAYTON ECKMAN             (Copied from her own Book of Remembrance in her own writing,                                       written in 1961 --  and condensed somewhat.) My parents were Joseph Henry Dayton , born in 1871 at Cedar Fort, Utah, and died in 1915 at Tooele, Utah, and Ann Elizabeth Henwood , born in 1872 at Tooele, Utah, and died in 1944.  They had 7 children,  two who passed away when they were two years old.  ( More about them after Gladys' history.)  Her middle name "Tregenna" was after the maiden surname of her mother Ann Elizabeth  Henwood's paternal grandmother -- Jane Tregenna who lived her life in England.          This is Glady's parents, Ann Henwood, and Joseph Henry Dayton. ...

I am deciding something that I believe is wise.  I have truly enjoyed writing this blog, and in it I have written several family history stories which are already in the books we have published and given to our children and grand-children.  I realize they are very busy, and don't have much time to peruse these books.  Some of them have told me they really love these stories, and haven't known they already have them, -- but didn't know where to find them in the books.  I'll try to put pages in, so all you posterity can find them in our books! Wayne and I have been the Stake Indexing leaders in our Stake for over a year.  Wayne does a very lot of indexing, but I do some other things also, and haven't been doing as much indexing as I did before I began writing the blog.  I believe I need to be more diligent doing that, and so I will cut down the number of blogs I do -- each week I plan to do at least 3 blogs, probably Monday, Wednesday, and Friday .  Su...
