1109. 6 Things You Never Knew About the New Testament, from LDS Living

These are interesting things to know as we study the New Testament this year. TOPICS POPULAR MORMON REPORT LESSON HELPS 6 Things You Never Knew About the New Testament by Frank F. Judd, Jr.  | Jan. 05, 2019 Makes You Think Mormon Life How did we get the New Testament Gospels? As it turns out, the process was quite complicated, but very interesting. Here are a few important things you should know about how the New Testament Gospels came to be. 1. Matthew and John were not eyewitnesses to all the events they wrote about. There may be some who assume that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John simply wrote down what they saw as they accompanied the Savior throughout His mortal ministry.  Certainly apostles like Matthew and John were eyewitnesses for some of the events of the ministry of Christ.  But some events they record these apostles never saw for themselves. For example, it is not likely that Matthew was present at ...

1084. Hitting the Bullseye: What the Restored Gospel has that Others Don’t By Wallace Goddard ·

This is extremely interesting, and so true.  It is easy to understand, and agrees with both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Hitting the Bullseye: What the Restored Gospel has that Others Don’t By Wallace Goddard  · November 12, 2018 Sign up for Meridian’s Free Newsletter, please  CLICK HERE There are some theological issues that matter more than others. For example, theologians have hotly debated God’s passibility (ability or willingness to feel our pain), the workings of grace, and the nature of the virgin birth. Untold gallons of ink and the blood of saints have been spilled trying to settle such issues (Jenkins, 2010). Yet clear and final answers on marginal issues are not necessary to a life of faith. The same principle can apply to us. There are many issues related to the restored gospel that we may not fully understand. We can become quite unsettled by them. Or we can keep our focus on the principles that matter most. In my...

719. There’s No Conflict Of Interest When It Comes To Mormonism

This insightful article by Greg Trimble shows why our no paid ministry allows for truth, and not just private interpretation of scriptures to be paramount in preserving the truth of our doctrines!  Great article! BY  GREG TRIMBLE     FAITH There’s No Conflict Of Interest When It Comes To Mormonism In my not too distant past… I found myself standing at an intersection with 4 different churches, one on each corner. I thought it would be fun and interesting to go in and talk to a couple of the priests and pastors of those churches about various aspects of their doctrine and beliefs. A couple of them had some time available because it was the middle of the day and not during their worship services. As we sat down, we began to discuss some of the many beliefs that each of us had and our interpretations of various passages in the Bible. I have always tried to keep my mind open to various belief systems and I’ve never wanted to be the guy that just shuns ev...

16. Controlling Anger --And Jumping to Conclusions

I learned many important lessons in life from my dear mother, Ruth Allen Miles.  I've mentioned her in here before, and will often I think.  The lesson which I will talk about, I quote from our life story book, page 343: ON ANGER MANAGEMENT: When I was about in the 7th grade, when our family home was still a basement, I remember some Saturday, Mom had left me in charge of my two sisters while she was gone.  I was to see they did their jobs.  I don't remember who came , or what I did or said, but I guess I was quite rude to one of Vina's friends.  When Mom got home, Vina told her of what I'd done, and Mom said, "Pal, why did you act like that?"  I replied, "I was so angry I didn't know what I was doing."  Mother just looked at me thoughtfully for a moment, and then said, "Pal, that is how people commit murder!"  I never forgot that, and have tried hard to control my anger since then.  That is another strong lesson I learned from my m...
