More family Christmas stories is a blog I repeat each Christmas.  It was published last year as entry # 304, and I have added more pictures this year.  More Family Christmas Stories, first published Dec. 3, 2013. This was posted last year on December 3, 2013, as blog # 24.  I hope you enjoy these family Christmas stories. The "Pull Out The Rug" story down a bit, is about our son Allen when he was about 8 years old.  The picture above is when he was a navigator in the Air Force, and his wife, Holli.  He served for almost 7 years, also in Desert Storm. There are several stories about Christmas in our family, and you may enjoy these: ----  (The photos are different from last year.) My mother, Ruth, was just 6 years old when her father passed away.   In the summer of 1914, her father, John Butler Allen, got a sliver in his eye.  Later a horse switched his tail and a long hair cut through his eye again.  These accidents c...

My mother, Ruth, was just 6 years old when her father passed away.  In the summer of 1914, her father, John Butler Allen, got a sliver in his eye.  Later a horse switched his tail and a long hair cut through his eye again.  These accidents caused him gradually to go blind in that eye.  The infection from this brought on Bright's Disease (the old-fashioned term for kidney problems).  He suffered very much with the infection which now could be cured in a few days with antibiotics.  He grew steadily worse until on October 26th, 1914, he finally passed away.  There were 8 children in the family, the 9th child having died at just four and a half months, before Ruth was born.  His wife was left with ...

231. An entry over 6 months ago revisited--telling a brief history of our lives.

Originally this was blog # 120--updated a bit. I guess from time to time I should tell some about our own lives, Pal and Wayne Eckman.   Actually my full name is Paralee Miles (maiden name) Eckman, and Wayne's is Wayne D Eckman.   I was born Oct. 6, 1934, in St. George, Utah and Wayne was born Sept. 18th, 1930, in Murray, Utah, just south of Salt Lake City, in the same valley.  I have noticed some of our readers live in foreign countries, and that is fascinating to me!  How small our wonderful world is!   And I truly feel love and friendship for each one of you, whether we have met or not.  That seems to be something that comes with membership in the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!      This photo was on our wedding day, Sept. 24, 1955.  Since then we now have nine children, 29 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. I grew up in St. George, when it was only about 5,000 people, and the Temple was on the so...

85. TIMELESS PHOTOS AND STORIES of my parents Ruth and Orson Pratt Miles

Image
I hope you enjoyed the history yesterday of my mother Ruth.  I have two histories of her.  The first was in a book that Wayne and I wrote about our own lives.  In it we had a section of our parents, and in that version, there are some interesting things that are not in the ancestor's book.  Some of what is below is "print screened", which is to copy exactly what was on a certain page, including pictures.  I'll include some of that history, along with today's telling more about my beloved mother and father.   The picture below is of my Grandma Levinah E. Allen, who had an inspirational, and also difficult life.  I'll tell about her later.  This is in my mother Ruth's words: Yes, mother did teach another 5 years, and after 40 years of teaching school, she did substitute teaching about 10 years until she was 75 years old, and her hearing was bad enough she couldn't hear well enough to teach.  She helped support several g...
