Merry Christmas to all you dear friends!  I have been busy and have forgotten to post here for a few weeks, and will try to be more diligent in the coming days! Last year this was post # 1366! This true story about my Christmas when I was 5 years old, is truly a favorite.  Reposted from:  #  555. A Child's Christmas Prayer Answered -- first written on December 1, 2013, on blog # 21, also # 1303 . This a true Christmas story, from my childhood. The Christmas of 1939, here in St. George, Utah, was going to be quite humble at our house. My father had been in World War I and had suffered off and on with "shell shock", which now is called Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He had been in the Veteran's hospital in Salt Lake City during the year, and my mother, Ruth, had given birth to my sister, Mavis, on December 1st. In those days, mothers stayed down much longer with a difficult birth. My mother had been allowed to turn over in bed on the 10th day, and got up on the...

1350. Do Your Prayers Have Power? By Joni Hilton · October 20, 2021, in Meridian Magazine

Have you  had prayers answered?  And did you recognize the answer? Do Your Prayers Have Power? By  Joni Hilton  · October 20, 2021 The following is excerpted from the book, The Power of Prayer by Joni Hilton (Covenant Communications). Prayer is an ingenious gift from a Father who misses His children. He gave us this amazing tool in hopes that we would “call home” frequently and not lose touch. But it is more than just a way to stay in contact—it is a way to unlock the very powers of heaven, the key to a treasure box. Prayer can actually precipitate miracles. The real purpose of prayer is to refine your desires to match God’s and to be of ultimate service to Him. It is to help you see things from an eternal perspective, so that you will ask for help in developing the strengths you need to meet your tasks. It is finding out what God wants for you, not telling God what you want for yourself. Many of us learn to pray by following a basic list of four main parts of ...

1304. More Family Christmas Stories -- and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Image
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL YOU DEAR FRIENDS!   I am making a decision as to my blog!  I appreciate all you who have read it over the years.  I've tried to find things that would be interesting or inspirational, or both!  In the beginning I mostly told stories of my husband Wayne's, and my own ancestors, and about our family.  Then when I had run out of stories from the past, I began using many things from other writers, which I always labeled to show where I got them from, and to rightly give credit to the writer. I am going, from this point on, to write about my own experiences, especially with Family History, and life in general.  I am now 86 years old, and hopefully have through many life experiences, learned a bit about life. I have always loved stories about ancestors, and from this point on I plan to write and document my experiences about them.   I had a tremendously exciting experience this last week as I researched the ancestors back from my ...

My grandmother, Ruth’s mother, was living with our small family, and helping aft...

1223. Sheri Dew: Why Wrestling with Tough Church Questions Is a Good Thing by Sheri Dew, in Meridian Magazine, and my thoughts during this Pandemic!

Image
Dear Readers,  During this pandemic I have read and watched many inspiring stories.  Yesterday I spent almost the entire day reading through several journals I have written since I was 16.  I haven't been an avid journal writer, and while raising 9 children, there were periods of time I didn't write at all.  So I have been able to get a quick view of my life during many busy, happy and sometimes sad years.  I had forgotten many of the problems we faced, and many of my children are now facing as they are raising their own children.   At this time I am 85 and a half years old.  I have 29 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren, with numbers 24 and 25 great grandchildren on the way.  We have experienced most of the problems that come with those numbers and that many lives, and I have seen most types of situations.  In one video I watched this morning, the word "Remember" came up a lot.  I realized that my reading of these past jo...

Again I'm posting some true family Christmas stories.  I hope you enjoy them! More family Christmas stories is a blog I repeat each Christmas.   It was published last year as entry # 304, and I have added more pictures this year.  More Family Christmas Stories, first published Dec. 3, 2013. This was posted last year on December 3, 2013, as blog # 24.  I hope you enjoy these family Christmas stories. The "Pull Out The Rug" story down a bit, is about our son Allen when he was about 8 years old.  The picture above is when he was a navigator in the Air Force, and his wife, Holli.  He served for almost 7 years, also in Desert Storm. There are several stories about Christmas in our family, and you may enjoy these: ----  (The photos are different from last year.) My mother, Ruth, was just 6 years old when her father passed away.   In the summer of 1914, her father, John Butler Allen, got a sliver in his eye.  Later...
