This new post by Brian Mickelson is a great followup to the entry I posted last night.  ENJOY !    It makes a lot of sense how he uses social media! New post on  Brian Mickelson.... Putting Social Media in its Place… by  BJM I'm telling you right now,  I love Twitter . I like having my news sources all combined into one streamlined place. I like funny people. I like simplicity and minimalism. Twitter gives me all of that. I also like  Pinterest . I like pictures. I like keeping track of things. I like curating good ideas. Again, I like simplicity. Pinterest gives me all of that. I like  Instagram . I do some photography, so...of course. Throw in  Facebook ,  Google+ ,  Snapchat ,  Tumblr ,  Reddit , and the many other social media sites, as well as blogs and email and texting, and you can see the potential problem: Keeping up on your social media life could get in the way of, wel...

216. Elder Bednar's talk about using social media! My upcoming operation!

I HOPE YOU ARE USING THE "TRANSLATE" OPTION IF YOU READ A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE!  iT IS ON THE LEFT SIDE UNDER "POPULAR POSTS" It is now Saturday evening August 23, 2014, here in St. George, Utah.  On Monday morning, August 25th, day after tomorrow, I will be having a rotator cuff shoulder operation.  A tendon in my right shoulder has completely broken off from my shoulder bone, and the surgery will repair it.  I appreciate all who have been reading my blogs, and I have collected a few really good articles that hopefully you will enjoy.  I will be putting them on every day or two during my recovery, and now and then I'll tell how I'm doing.  I'm so grateful for modern medicine and surgical techniques.  I often wonder what pioneers were able to do with a problem like this.  I have been told that it won't heal itself, and I had a choice -- to just live with it, and it probably will continue to get worse, or to have the surgery.  Pioneers didn't...

Today is President Thomas S. Monson's 87th Birthday!  Also you can read below some things that happened on August 21st on different years in Church History. For you that aren't aware, Pres. Monson has had a great hobby of raising and training pidgeons. Latter Day Light DAILY DEVOTION _________________________ We Need the Assistance of the Holy Ghost Nauvoo, Illinois August 21, 2014 SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: 1 Nephi 10:9 "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round. " QUOTE OF THE DAY:   Lorenzo Snow    "We ought to understand---and I presume that we do generally---that the work which we have come into this life to perform cannot be done to the glory of God or to the satisfac...

214. Article by Robert L. Millet, about 5 myths believed about the Second Coming.

This is an interesting article written by Robert L. Millet.  I thought readers would find it interesting, as I did. 5 Second Coming Myths and the Truth Behind Them ROBERT L. MILLET  When will the Second Coming be and how can we prepare for it? Find out the truth behind 5 myths about Christ's return to earth. In working as a religious educator for almost four decades, I have been delighted to witness a significant rise in what might be called scriptural literacy or gospel scholarship among the young people of the Church. This is a tribute to devoted mothers and fathers, advisers and teachers, seminary and institute instructors. Our members are simply more capable and adept at utilizing the standard works in finding answers to their questions, seeking divine guidance, and explaining or defending the teachings of the restored gospel to those not of our faith.  And yet, there are certain misleading concepts, unsupportable ideas—myths—that persist among our me...

213. Church History, and why a volcano eruption of Mount Tambora, in Indonesia in 1815 sent the Smith Family to Palmyra, New York!

Image
This article I found goes with the entry # 211 about the Palmyra Temple.  Church History is so interesting, and I love to learn about what has happened, both to my own ancestors, and to the Prophet Joseph Smith and the early leaders.   Things I Didn't Know in Church History about Palmyra, New York! JOHN L. LUND - MARCH 09, 2010 Thinkstock. Here are a few interesting facts in church history that few people know. When you take that next tour or trip to Palmyra, hopefully these facts will help enhance your experience at the Sacred Grove, the Hill Cumorah, the Grandin Printing Press and the Joseph Smith Farm. Why did Joseph Smith's father choose to live in Palmyra?  Obviously, the Lord guided his pathway so that young Joseph could be near the Hill Cumorah where Moroni had buried the plates of gold upon which were written the abridgment of the Book of Mormon. However, for the Smith family it was a move of desperation. The following I have added, and can ...

212. Why You Don't Need to Be Scared To Talk To Your Bishop, posted by Greg Trimble

I just read this and think some people may be interested in it. Why You Don’t Need to Be Scared To Talk To Your Bishop AUGUST 14, 2014  BY  GREG TRIMBLE   Over the years I have talked to hundreds of people that want to come back to church, want to go on a mission, or want to raise their kids in the Church in good conscience. Many more write to me privately through this blog, expressing their desire to come back but not knowing how to go about it. They’ve all done something that they know they need to talk to the bishop about but the thought of sitting in that office telling this random person their deepest secrets is too much for them to bear. I can see their point. But I want to show you why you don’t need to be scared to talk to your bishop about things that are bothering you. This moment in time is a critical juncture for people. I think its one of the most critical junctures in a person’s life. This decision and interaction can make or break a perso...
