1076. How to Prevent a House Fire From Ever Breaking Out in Your Home By Carolyn Nicolaysen, and our own house fire!

Image
To anyone who has ever had a house fire this information is valuable! (and others also!)  We had a house fire many years ago, early in the morning at 4:30 a.m. in May of 1969.  I know it was then, because our daughter Tacy was just 4 weeks old. My husband, Wayne, was an early morning seminary teacher then, and his usual pattern each morning was to awaken at 4:30 a.m., have a shower, and then go downstairs to do lesson preparing for it.  This one morning he decided to go and study first, in our home in Sandy, Utah.  That was so inspired!  Within a couple of minutes he heard some crackling sounds, and was right next to our large storage and utility room, where the furnace and water heater were.  He went in, and saw flames around 3 feet high starting from a sleeping bag that was close to the pilot light flame at the bottom of the water heater!  He immediately pulled the sleeping bag away, and hollered to us and woke us all up.  We called th...

1075. Elder Richard G. Scott's 21 Principles to Help You Live by the Spirit. On LDS Living, November 7, 2014.

This was first posted on Monday, May 25, 2015 -- almost 3 and a half years ago.   I noticed that someone had read this recently, and I couldn't remember it, so I read it again.  It truly is very worth reading! 420. Elder Richard G. Scott's 21 Principles to Help You Live by the Spirit. (This is the entry I posted in 2015 --) This post was on this blog on Nov. 7, 2014, on Elder Richard Scott's birthday.  I noticed someone had read it today, and I read it over again, and decided it is worth re-printing!  He is now very ill, and isn't able to do his work as an apostle, due to poor health, and some dementia because of it, as I understand.  So it is important to remember some of the inspired counsel he has given before.  This today is truly wonderful!  So I'm posting it as it was last November. Happy Birthday, Elder Richard G. Scott.  This was on LDS Living today, Nov. 7, 2014. Elder Scott's 21 Principles to Help You ...

1073. China - # 6 - Jade Factory and the GREAT WALL!

Image
We were on the 16th floor, but the restaurant where we ate breakfast, and some dinners, was on the 38th floor!  This is looking out a window on the 38th floor -- mostly high rises!   Our day began visiting a Jade factory, where many colors of Jade were crafted into many different objects!  At the Jade Factory we learned there are many colors of Jade, and they are found all over China.  The dull green shade seems to be most popular, but the beautiful bowl the lady is holding below, was that beautiful orange-red color!  She explained about those two statues of a male and female dragons!  She said they needed to be sold together!  Very expensive!    There was a show room with beautiful jewelry of all shades of Jade!  And many other figures, etc. all made of Jade!   More Chinese figures all made of various colors of Jade.  These were 2 to 3 feet tall. You can tell how large these figures wer...

1071. China - # 4 - Cruise on the Yangtze River, with beautiful scenery!

Image
One of the highlights of the China Tour was the 4 day cruise on the Yangtze River!  I'll post pictures and tell about them.      Our first breakfast on the cruise ship.  There was always watermelon, hard boiled eggs, various veges and dumplings. The white fruit with black dots was "Dragon fruit", quite tasty!  We saw many other ships also on the very large Yangtze River.  The River, I believe, is about 300 meters deep -- and looks a sort of grey green.  Sadly we saw debris floating on it, in places.  In this picture you can see some terraces, which were farmed.  This ship was much larger than ours, and more houses on shore.  A lunch, always rice available, and various veges etc.  Spicy!  One off shore excursion included being taught about the Three Gorges Dam, which is the largest dam in the world, producing enormous amounts of electricity, which supply many cities with power.  Below is a pict...
