1243. “Family Angels” Dispatched for Our Good By Anne Hinton Pratt, in Meridian Magazine.

I am listening to fire works in a place near us.  But I am home, and thinking about the very inspiring concert we watched, near our Centerville community theater here.  We watched in our cars, but the music and sound system were great!  They sang a lot of very patriotic numbers, and brought a wonderful feeling of patriotism.  I'll write about July 4th tomorrow!  “Family Angels” Dispatched for Our Good By  Anne Hinton Pratt  · July 1, 2020 Cover image: “Us with Them and Them with Us” by  Caitlin Connolly .   See more from Caitlin at @caitlin_connolly_. The bond we share with family on both sides of the veil is eternal, and the love we feel is deep and poignant.  When loved ones die, they are still intimately concerned about our lives and are often allowed to return to help us through difficult times or to share in our joy.  I have asked you to share some of your stories, and I am always amazed at what “f...

1242. My Brother-in-law, Doctor Andrew Barnum, 95 years old, passed away peacefully this morning, July 2, 2020.

Dr. Andrew Barnum who taught at Dixie College for 50 years, passed into eternity today, July 2, 2020.  Around a month ago he fell and broke his hip, and had surgery.  After a rehab, and a few days at home, he spent his last few days at Southern Comfort Care, in St. George. I received a call from his daughter, Annette Barnum, who has so lovingly been taking care of him for a few years.  He was an icon at Dixie College -- now Dixie State University.   This is his story, I posted in 2018.  It was # 1011. ------------------------------------------------ My dear brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew Barnum (Andy to me) is 93 years old, and still working 4 hours each week day!   I was in St. George last week, and went with my daughter Delsy to visit him at his home.  Then the next day, Wednesday, March 7, 2018, we went to his science museum at Dixie State University.   A 2 headed calf, born somewhere in the area, and lived a short time....

I just love this picture with a plastic mask on the baby's face! 19 countries you may not have known received Church donations recently by Emily Abel  | Jun. 29, 2020 A world in commotion creates a world of opportunities to serve. And Latter-day Saints everywhere are doing just that. The Church has more than 80 international Newsroom websites for various countries, and writers have been busy documenting how the Church and its members have responded to the COVID-19 crisis in their communities. A compilation of service projects from 19 different countries was recently published, and the wide array of service is enough to make anyone smile. See a few of our favorite stories from Church Newsroom below. Mongolia The Ministry of Health in Mongolia received a donation of sterilization kits, blankets, and baby cradles from the Church. Italy Youth in Italy gathered to assemble 300 food packages to give to families in ne...

This is a very thoughtful article!  Meridian Magazine has such timely and appropriate articles! "Thank You!"  from me for their great thoughtful articles! Rooted Out: An Invitation for Self-Examination By  Lynne Perry Christofferson  · June 17, 2020 The ugly specter of racism has reared its head in ways that cannot be ignored. Shocking deaths, protests–both peaceful and violent, and countless stories of cruelty and oppression have dominated the news. It takes a significant story to edge a pandemic out of the spotlight. For weeks I have scrolled through scores of social media posts on the subject of racism. Some of them impassioned rants, some attempting to educate the white, privileged population, and others offering constructive ways to show support to Black business owners. I have also spent hours trying to identify what my personal responsibility is in all of this. Though I don’t have all the answers, three separate stories keep floa...
