1348. Will the Real Columbus Please Stand Up By Tad R. Callister · October 8, 2021, in Meridian Magazine

This is one of the most insightful article about Columbus that  I've ever read!  Just in time for Columbus Day this weekend! Will the Real Columbus Please Stand Up By  Tad R. Callister  · October 8, 2021 A well-known television show,  To Tell the Truth,  involved four panelists who were presented with three contestants, each of whom claimed to be the key figure in a unique occupation or experience. Two of the contestants were counterfeits who were permitted to misrepresent the truth, while the third contestant—the real key figure—was required to tell the truth. After asking questions, the panelists would then give their opinion as to which contestant was the real McCoy. Thereafter the moderator would say, “Would the real ‘key figure’ please stand up.” The panelists were often surprised to discover they had picked the wrong contestant. In a somewhat like manner, we have many revisionist historians who have manufactured a counterfeit Columbus who has o...

1346. The Constitution—Man-made or Divinely Inspired? By Tad R. Callister · September 20, 2021, in Meridian Magazine

I have heard all my 86 years that the day would come that the Constitution would hang, as by a thread.  Today that is happening, and I hope each of us will do our part to help uphold it.  The future of the world depends on it! The Constitution—Man-made or Divinely Inspired? By  Tad R. Callister  · September 20, 2021 A critical issue faces our nation today: Is the Constitution of our country divinely inspired and thus worthy of our vigorous defense, or instead, is it a secular document in need of drastic overhaul to comply with current societal trends?  This raises the preliminary question, “Did the Founding Fathers coincidentally and conveniently appear on the scene at the same time, or were they raised up by God to establish a nation and Constitution inspired by Him?” Unfortunately, it has become academically in vogue to denigrate many of our Founding Fathers. Undoubtedly, they had imperfections, as do all men, but nonetheless, they were chosen instrumen...

A successful New York lawyer's response when called as an Apostle by Dennis B. Horne, Contributor  | Sep. 08, 2021 Editor’s note: The following excerpt comes from a book about special witnesses of Jesus Christ. You can read this chapter in its entirety at  truthwillprevail.xyz  as well as other chapters as they are posted. This excerpt is republished here with permission.  Brother Henry D. Moyle, then the chairman of the General Welfare Committee, had been in Salt Lake City before conference, but was given permission by President George Albert Smith to travel to New York City (to begin some legal work for a client) since there were no major Welfare issues needing his attention. 1  But as general conference was about to start (then a three-day affair), Henry received a “long-distance” telephone call from President Smith, in which he was called as an Apostle and told to return immediately to Salt Lake City so he could be sustained and ordained. 2  Near...

1344. This Doctrine Answers Our Hardest Questions and Defines Us By Richard Eyre · September 14, 2021, in Meridian Magazine

This Doctrine Answers Our Hardest Questions and Defines Us By  Richard Eyre  · September 14, 2021 Editor’s Note: This is the eleventh article in a twelve-part series on the restored doctrine of The Parental God—a belief which separates our theology from that of any other religion. Access the first ten articles  HERE . Author’s Note:  The central thrust and thesis of this series is that our belief in literal Heavenly Parents changes everything and is the most pivotal and distinctive teaching of the Restoration from which all other key theology stems.  If we are the spiritual children of Heavenly Parents then of course we lived with Them pre-mortally, of course They have a plan for our happiness, and of course we must prioritize our family like They prioritize Theirs. This series seeks to organize what we know from prophetic and official Church sources in a way that prompts personal pondering and prayer about our Parental God and perhaps draws us closer eve...
