129. EXTRA, EXTRA! Ruth's poems has reached 100 page views!

Just to let you readers know, Blog # 95, of Beautiful Poems by my mother, Ruth Allen Miles,. has reached an all time high of 100 viewers!  After I finish the next one or two entries about my great grandfather, Samuel Miles Jr., I will write more of her life.  She was such a remarkable and noble woman!  I'm enclosing several pictures of her below.  Some of these photos have been in here before.

                 ANTHONY JANSEN VAN SALLEE, 1607-1676                              by Hazel Van Dyke Roberts, PH.D.   I'm using the historical writing of Hazel Roberts, as she did a lot of research on it.  Anthony was the son of the Pirate King, Jan Jansen, told about in the last entry, # 154.  This is about an interesting part of early New England History.  New Amsterdam became the city New York when the English conquered the Dutch in 1664.       Anthony Jansen Van Salee was a unique, interesting, and  important figure in the early history of New Amsterdam,  He has been found to be the most unusual and interesting figure in the New Amsterdam records . Contentious and obviously a nuisance to them, he was treated by the authorities with the respect due to a person of importance.  It is speculated that Anthony’s father had provided him a considerable fortune, and by 1639 he was one of the largest landholders on the island, as well as a prosperous farmer.       O'Callaghan in

2053. Hello, again! I'm trying to start my blog again! Please be patient!

  Dear Readers: I had my 90th birthday on October 6th, a week ago last Sunday!  I am forgetting how to do this blog! I really want to keep this blog going!  But my problem with a 90 year old brain, is how to do it!  A lot is going on in the world, and I actually don't watch much news.        I have a dear friend here in Fairfield Assisted Living in Layton, Utah, named JoAnn, who lives 2 doors from me.  Over the years she has had macular degeneration which has gradually gotten worse, until she is basically blind.  She has to have help just when she eats, as she can't see her food, and has to be told where her drink is, where her foods of different kinds are, etc.  She has had internal problems where she has to have different foods pureid, and eats a lot of protein drinks.                                       This is JoAnn She has been a very elegant lady, putting her hair in curlers each night, having a CNA choose her clothes each day, but she has lovely clothes and they match

1242. My Brother-in-law, Doctor Andrew Barnum, 95 years old, passed away peacefully this morning, July 2, 2020.

Dr. Andrew Barnum who taught at Dixie College for 50 years, passed into eternity today, July 2, 2020.  Around a month ago he fell and broke his hip, and had surgery.  After a rehab, and a few days at home, he spent his last few days at Southern Comfort Care, in St. George. I received a call from his daughter, Annette Barnum, who has so lovingly been taking care of him for a few years.  He was an icon at Dixie College -- now Dixie State University.   This is his story, I posted in 2018.  It was # 1011. ------------------------------------------------ My dear brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew Barnum (Andy to me) is 93 years old, and still working 4 hours each week day!   I was in St. George last week, and went with my daughter Delsy to visit him at his home.  Then the next day, Wednesday, March 7, 2018, we went to his science museum at Dixie State University.   A 2 headed calf, born somewhere in the area, and lived a short time.  He knows all the dates, and places they came from b
