471. LDS Church's #IAmAPioneer Campaign Recognizes Past and Present Pioneers. You can contribute your story!

How appropriate this is for July 24th, in just 3 days!  This is for all you readers who have pioneer ancestors, or you are a pioneer in your own family, or country.  You can send in your own story!

Today I begin a training period so I can go back to our local Family History Center, and be a volunteer to help others.  From about 1992 to 2011, I volunteered, and 2 times served a 1 year mission there.  But since then, there are so many new things in technology that I need to catch up!

I took a class recently on how to upload photos and other memories on to Family Search, in Family Tree, and I have had so much fun doing that!  Both Wayne and I have had health problems over the last year or two, but we are at a time things are going better, and I want to get back to one of the things I love most -- FAMILY HISTORY, AND GENEALOGY! ! !

LDS Church’s #IAmAPioneer Campaign Recognizes Past and Present Pioneers

From Mormon News Room.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a new social media campaign that recognizes pioneers, both from the early days of the Church and present time, who have overcome challenges in life.
Mormon Newsroom explains that the campaign’s intent is to “inspire members and the public to consider the contributions of their ancestors and the pioneer legacy they can leave for future generations.”

The video released to introduce the campaign quotes President Thomas S. Monson from a 1997 General Conference talk, saying,
To all of you noble pioneers who go before, showing others the way to follow, I urge, ‘Carry on.’
This new campaign is a collaboration between the Church History Department and the Family History Department and will evolve over several phases on FamilySearch.org and social media platforms.

As part of this campaign, starting August 9, Family Search will allow its users access to stories and photos from the 500 pioneers who served in the Mormon Battalion.

The video used to promote the campaign explains that a pioneer is someone who is a leader and an example, someone who makes a difference and shows others the way to follow.

Members are invited to participate in this campaign by posting a picture to social media with a caption that explains why they are a pioneer. Participants in the online converstaion should be sure to tag theirs posts with #IAmAPioneer.

The Church also encourages members to use this new campaign, accessible through familysearch.org and history.lds.org, as an opportunity to discover their personal pioneer heritage.
