510. Lovely Sabbath Day Thoughts, for Conference Sunday, from Latter Day Devotion.

On this inspirational day of General Conference, here are some scriptures and quotes from prophets which are really inspirational.  One more afternoon session!  Our son, Wayne M., is singing in the Tabernacle Choir, and it is fun to watch for him.  This is the face to watch for.  He is in the section next to the women, about in the middle of the Men's section.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY:
Doctrine & Covenants 21:4-6

"Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; for his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.

"For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his name's glory."

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Harold B. Lee
  Harold B. Lee
"To you Latter-day Saints everywhere, that promise [in D&C 21:4-6] will be yours if you will follow the leadership the Lord has placed within the Church, giving heed to their counsel in patience and faith.

"Look to the President of the Church for your instructions. If ever there is a conflict, you keep your eyes on the President if you want to walk in the light" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Harold B. Lee, p. 85).

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY:
Helaman 5:12
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
David O. McKay

"The Church teaches that life here is probationary. It is man's duty to become the master, not the slave of nature. His appetites are to be controlled and used for the benefit of his health and the prolongation of his life-his passions mastered and controlled for the happiness and blessing of others. . . .

"If you have lived true to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and continue to do so, happiness will fill your soul. If you vary from it and become conscious that you have fallen short of what you know is right, you are going to be unhappy even [if] you have the wealth of the world" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: David O. McKay, p. 82-83
