625. Some inspiring thoughts for Sunday, about Missionary work, and being in the world, but not of the world.

There is another beautiful Fast Sunday almost here.  We have an interesting thing in our ward.  Our wonderful bishop, a Seminary teacher, was made our Stake President 2 weeks ago.  He has been doing double duty for those 2 weeks, and we are wondering who will fill his shoes and be our next bishop! ?  It is so inspiring to recognize the Hand of the Lord in the calling of our leaders.

I truly sustain our leaders, from our ward, to our Stake, to the whole Church!  Last night I went to an inspiring talk in our local Tabernacle here in St. George by Sister Elaine Dalton, a past President of Young Women in the Church.  One comment she made was that she felt she was born with a testimony!  That rang true with me also.  I have never had a time I didn't thoroughly love and sustain the Prophet, and all associated with him, from my childhood on.  I have heard so many wonderful family history stories about my valiant ancestors.  I have truly been blessed, and I realize it more each day!

Missionary Work
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Doctrine & Covenants 133:36-37

"And now, verily saith the Lord, that these things might be known among you, O inhabitants of the earth, I have sent forth mine angel flying through the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel, who hath appeared unto some and hath committed it unto man, who shall appear unto many that dwell on the earth.  And this gospel shall be preached unto every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people."

Ezra Taft Benson
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Ezra Taft Benson

"God has again revealed himself from heaven and restored to the earth his holy priesthood with power to administer in all the sacred ordinances necessary for the exaltation of his children. His church has been reestablished among men with all the spiritual gifts enjoyed anciently. All this is done in preparation for Christ's second coming. The great and dreadful day of the Lord is near at hand. In preparation for this great event and as a means of escaping the impending judgments, inspired messengers have gone, and are now going, forth to the nations of the earth carrying this testimony and warning" ("A Message to the World," Ensign, November 1975).

In the World But Not of the World
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
1 John 2:15-17

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

Gordon B. Hinckley
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Gordon B. Hinckley

"It is not always easy to live in the world and not be a part of it. We cannot live entirely with our own or unto ourselves, nor would we wish to. We must mingle with others. In so doing, we can be gracious. We can be inoffensive. We can avoid any spirit or attitude of self-righteousness. But we can maintain our standards. The natural tendency will be otherwise, and many have succumbed to it" ("A City Set Upon a Hill,"Ensign, November 1974).

Make the Most of Each Day
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
2 Timothy 4:7-8

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Thomas S. Monson
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Thomas S. Monson

"If we lift one weary hand which hangs down, if we bring peace to one struggling soul, if we give as did the Master, we can---by showing the way---become a guiding star for some lost mariner.

"Because life is fragile and death inevitable, we must make the most of each day" ("Now Is the Time, Ensign, November 2001).
