735. Good thoughts from Latter Day Light, to lift you in difficult times!

To my dear friends here in the United States, and all over the world.  I truly hope we will have peace, kindness, respect, charity, and hope for the future!  We see many these days who are confused and unhappy.

I truly hope we can keep our spirits high, and remember President Thomas S. Monson's quote:  The future is as bright as your faith!"

Freedom
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Galatians 5:1

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
Howard W. Hunter
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Howard W. Hunter

"A thief takes something an gives nothing.  He thinks he is free, but sooner or later his freedom vanishes into walls and bars.  Likewise, a person becomes a thief of his own soul by deceiving himself that he can live unrighteously, immorally, that he can cheat, lie, and take advantage of his neighbor; but all the while he is imprisoning himself behind bars and walls of his own making. . . . The only way we can keep our freedom is through personal righteousness---by handling that freedom responsibly" (The Teachings of Howard W. Hunter, p.169).
Path to Exaltation
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Doctrine & Covenants 121:7-8

"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes."
Harold B. Lee
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Harold B. Lee

"The path to [exaltation] is rugged and steep. Many stumble and fall, and through discouragement never pick themselves up to start again. The forces of evil cloud the path with many foggy deterrents, often trying to detour us in misleading trails. But through all this journey there is the calming assurance that if we choose the right, success will be ours, and the achievement of it will have molded and formed and created us into the kind of person qualified to be accepted into the presence of God. What greater success could there be than to have all that God has?" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Harold B. Lee, p. 206-207).
