747. Inspiring thoughts to help us think of our Savior Jesus Christ, and this wonderful season of the year!

Inspiring thoughts for the Sabbath Day -- coming!  For the 3rd day of the Light Of The World, I found 2 pair of glasses I don't use anymore.  Hopefully someone can use them when I donate them to Deseret Industries.  Today my son helped me put up our small Christmas tree -- we haven't had a large Christmas tree for a few years.  Usually my husband Wayne loved to decorate the tree.   He really loved holidays, and getting together with the family.
I found this photo below of Wayne with one of our sweet great grandchildren.
It is so typical of him, and so natural!  He always loved little children, and one of the things I noticed first about him was how he always would smile, wave, talk, etc. to little children, and they loved him!

Jesus Christ
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Helaman 5:9

" O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Heber J. Grant

"The story of Jesus the Christ is a story of old that ever remains new. The oftener I read of His life and labors the greater are the joy, the peace, the happiness, the satisfaction that fill my soul. There is ever a new charm comes to me in contemplating His words and the plan of life and salvation which He taught to men during His life upon the earth" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Heber J. Grant, p. 221).

Gifts From God
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Moroni 10:8

"And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them."

Joseph F. Smith
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph F. Smith

"I consider that every principle of the Gospel which we have received is in itself a glorious gift of God unto the children of men. The gift of wisdom, the gift of understanding, the gift of prophecy, the gift of tongues, the gift of healing, the gift of testimony, the gift of knowledge, all these are designed by the Almighty to come to us through our obedience to the principles of life and salvation" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph F. Smith, p. 202).

Holy Ghost
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Matthew 16:17-18

"And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Lorenzo Snow
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Lorenzo Snow

"The foundation upon which the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is built is the rock of revelation---upon the rock that Jesus said He would build His church, and the gates of hell should not prevail against it. We have not received this knowledge through flesh and blood, we have not received this testimony from man, we have not received it through the reading of the Bible . . . or Book of Mormon, but we have received it through the operations of the Holy Ghost" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, p. 74).

Service in the Church
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Doctrine & Covenants 4:2

"Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
John Taylor

"We ought to wake up and put our houses in order and our hearts in order; we ought to conform to the word, the will, and the law of God; we ought to let God rule in Zion, to let His law be written upon our hearts, and to feel the responsibility of the great work we are called upon to perform. . . . We are here to build up the Zion of God, and to this end we must subject our bodies and our spirits to the law, to the word, and to the will of God" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor, p. 167).

The Sacrament
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Luke 22:19-20

"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

Brigham Young
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Brigham Young

"We [partake of the sacrament] in remembrance of the death of our Savior; it is required of his disciples until he comes again, no matter how long that may be. . . . Why are they required to do this? To witness unto the Father, to Jesus and to the angels that they are believers in and desire to follow him in the regeneration, keep his commandments, build up his Kingdom, revere his name and serve him with an undivided heart, that they may be worthy to eat and drink with him in his Father's Kingdom. This is why the Latter-day Saints partake of the ordinance of the Lord's Supper" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, p. 151).

Mission of Elijah
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Malachi 4:5-6

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:  And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

Joseph Smith
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph Smith

"But how are they to become saviors on Mount Zion? By building their temples, erecting their baptismal fonts, and going forth and receiving all the ordinances, baptisms, confirmations, washings, anointings, ordinations and sealing powers upon their heads, in behalf of all their progenitors who are dead, and redeem them that they may come forth in the first resurrection and be exalted to thrones of glory with them; and herein is the chain that binds the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, which fulfills the mission of Elijah" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, p. 473).
