Be an Answer to Someone's Prayer
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Alma 34:27-28

"Yea, and when you do not cry unto the Lord, let your hearts be full, drawn out in prayer unto him continually for your welfare, and also for the welfare of those who are around you.  And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, do not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those who stand in need---I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites who do deny the faith."

Ezra Taft Benson
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Ezra Taft Benson

"Christlike service exalts. Knowing this, we call on all . . . members who are able to thrust in their sickles in service to others. This can be part of the sanctifying process. The Lord has promised that those who lose their lives serving others will find themselves. . . .

"Peace and joy and blessings will follow those who render service to others. Yes, we commend Christlike service to all" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Ezra Taft Benson, p. 208-209).

Service as Testimony
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Joshua 24:24

"And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey."

Spencer W. Kimball
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Spencer W. Kimball

"As the contrasts between the ways of the world and the ways of God become sharpened by circumstance, the faith of the members of the Church will be tried even more severely. One of the most vital things we can do is to express our testimonies through service, which will, in turn, produce spiritual growth, greater commitment, and a greater capacity to keep the commandments" ("Small Acts of Service," Ensign,  December 1974).

Children Need to Learn to Serve
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Mosiah 4:15

"But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another."

Harold B. Lee
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Harold B. Lee

"Every child must be given sufficient experience to learn that unselfish service brings joy and that the work one does for which he is not paid is that which produces the greatest happiness" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Harold B. Lee, p. 124).

Expressing Our Love for the Savior
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 John 14:21

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph Fielding Smith

"We believe that worship is far more than prayer and preaching and gospel performance. The supreme act of worship is to keep the commandments, to follow in the footsteps of the Son of God, to do ever those things that please him. It is one thing to give lip service to the Lord; it is quite another to respect and honor his will by following the example he has set for us" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 231).
Joy in Service
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
 Ephesians 6:6-8

"Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free."

David O. McKay - 92 - small
QUOTE OF THE DAY
David O.McKay

"I have seen young girls who have spent the entire day serving people on Old Folks' Day, seeking the comfort and happiness of somebody else.  I remember on one occasion when one of those young ladies came home in the evening she suddenly realized she was weary, threw herself on the cot, and said, 'My, I am tired, but do you know this has been one of the happiest days of my life.'  She had found joy in work that gave joy to others" (Gospel Ideals, p. 497).
