832. Here are some uplifting thoughts for the day!

Here are some uplifting thoughts for the day!  I have been busy getting ready to move up to northern Utah, going through years of "stuff".  I may not write as often for the next 2 months or so.  I am visiting old friends, etc., that I have known all my life.  I will be leaving the town I was born in, and lived in the majority of my life.  It is hard to describe feelings of leaving here, and yet being very anxious to move up closer to 6 of my children, and many grand and great grandchildren!  I'm excited to be up there!  I will be closer to about 3/4th of the dear people in our family picture that was taken when we celebrated my 80th birthday, in September, 2014.

Obedience
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Matthew 19:20-22

"The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?  Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions."

Lorenzo Snow
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Lorenzo Snow

"Jesus knew that before he could elevate him, or any other man, to the celestial world, it was necessary that he should be submissive in all things, and view obedience to the celestial law of the utmost importance. Jesus knew what was required of every man to gain a celestial crown---that nothing should be held dearer than obedience to the requirements of heaven" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, p. 177).

Charity
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Ether 12:33-34

"And again, I remember that thou hast said that thou hast loved the world, even unto the laying down of thy life for the world, that thou mightest take it again to prepare a place for the children of men. And now I know that this love which thou hast had for the children of men is charity; wherefore, except men shall have charity they cannot inherit that place which thou hast prepared in the mansions of thy Father."

Joseph Smith
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph Smith

"Wise men ought to have understanding enough to conquer men with kindness. 'A soft answer turneth away wrath,' says the wise man [Proverbs 15:1]; and it will be greatly to the credit of the Latter-day Saints to show the love of God, by now kindly treating those who may have, in an unconscious moment, done wrong; for truly said Jesus, Pray for thine enemies" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, p. 428).

A Little More Faith
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Alma 57:27

"Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually."

Gordon B. Hinckley
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Gordon B. Hinckley

"I know that frequently it is not easy to face up to that which is expected of us. Many think they cannot do it. We need a little more faith. We should know that the Lord will not give us commandments beyond our power to observe. He will not ask us to do things for which we lack the capacity. Our problem lies in our fears and in our appetites" ("Let Us Move This Work Forward,Ensign, November 1985).

Standing As Witnesses of God
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Daniel 3:17-18

"If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up."

Howard W. Hunter
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Howard W. Hunter

"The ability to stand by one's principles, to live with integrity and faith according to one's belief---that is what matters, that is the difference between a contribution and a commitment. That devotion to true principle---in our individual lives, in our homes and families, and in all places where we meet and influence other people---that devotion is what God is ultimately requesting of us" ("Standing As Witnesses of God," Ensign, May 1990).

Most Optimistic
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
1 Nephi 22:17

"Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even unto the destruction of their enemies by fire. Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith the prophet, they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire."

Ezra Taft Benson
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Ezra Taft Benson

"As the showdown between good and evil approaches with its accompanying trials and tribulations, Satan is increasingly striving to overcome the Saints with despair, discouragement, despondency, and depression.

"Yet, of all people, we as Latter-day Saints should be the most optimistic and the least pessimistic" ("Do Not Despair," Ensign, November 1974

Righteous and Ready
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Doctrine & Covenants 45:56-57

"And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins. For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived---verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph Fielding Smith

"I get annoyed sometimes at some of our elders who when speaking, say the Lord will come when we all become righteous enough to receive him. The Lord is not going to wait for us to get righteous. When he gets ready to come he is going to come---when the cup of iniquity is full---and if we are not righteous then, it will be just too bad for us . . ." (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 326).
