856. Family changes, and moves, and great thoughts about Divine Assistance, kindness,

We have had several changes in our family recently!  I moved from St. George to Bountiful, Utah, 2 weeks ago today.  My son, Wayne Miles Eckman, will sing in the Tabernacle Choir for the last time, tomorrow April 23, 2017, as he turned 60 last summer.  He was able to go with the Choir to Europe last summer, and also sing in the Inauguration.  You can read about him at:

Our daughter Delsy wil be retiring from teaching school in Santa Clara, Utah, and move to Ogden, Utah, in June.  I'll do a blog about her for her birthday on May 16th.  Several family members are graduating, moving away to college, etc.

Great Mission
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Mosiah 3:19

"For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
John Taylor

"We have a great mission to perform---we have to try to govern ourselves according to the laws of the kingdom of God, and we find it one of the most difficult tasks we ever undertook, to learn to govern ourselves, our appetites, our dispositions, our habits, our feelings, our lives, our spirits, our judgment, and to bring all our desires into subjection to the law of the kingdom of God and to the spirit of truth" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor, p.237).

Kindness, Charity, and Love
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Colossians 3:12

"Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering."

Thomas S. Monson
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Thomas S. Monson

"Brethren, let us examine our lives and determine to follow the Savior's example by being kind, loving, and charitable. And as we do so, we will be in a better position to call down the powers of heaven for ourselves, for our families, and for our fellow travelers in this sometimes difficult journey back to our heavenly home" ("Kindness, Charity, and Love," 2017 April General Conference).

Divine Assistance
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Doctrine & Covenants 78:17-18

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you; and ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours."

Howard W. Hunter
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Howard W. Hunter

"Perhaps no promise in life is more reassuring than that promise of divine assistance and spiritual guidance in times of need. It is a gift freely given from heaven, a gift that we need from our earliest youth through the very latest days of our lives" ("Blessed from on High," Ensign, November 1988).
