908. Great thoughts from scriptures and prophets!
My husband Wayne and I have had some inspiring stories about paying tithing! I am a firm believer in paying an honest tithing, and generous fast offering. At this time it is also good to give to the Humanitarian fund -- people all of the world are needing help. I don't have time now, but I will write out some of our tithing stories very soon. I am putting first a picture of my dad, Orson Pratt Miles. Tomorrow would be his 126th birthday! He and my mother taught me about tithing and Gospel living from the day I was born. I have such a great heritage, and I am so grateful for it!
Below is a painting I did of the photo above. He was a gentleman through and through. He always wore a hat and a tie -- often even in the house!

Tithing
|
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Malachi 3:10
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Spencer W. Kimball
"The Lord herein makes clear that tithing is his law and is required of all his followers. It is our honor and privilege, our safety and promise, our great blessing to live this law of God. To fail to meet this obligation in full is to deny ourselves the promises and is to omit a weighty matter. It is a transgression, not an inconsequential oversight" ("He Did It with All His Heart, and Prospered," Ensign, March 1981).

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Mosiah 4:15
"But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another."
|
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Joseph Fielding Smith
"I pray that our Heavenly Father will give all of us the strength to reach our true potential. I invoke his Spirit on the homes of the Church, that there may be love and harmony found there. May our Father preserve and exalt our families" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 80).

Duty
|
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Doctrine & Covenants 107:99-100
"Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence. He that is slothful shall not be counted worthy to stand, and he that learns not his duty and shows himself not approved shall not be counted worthy to stand. Even so. Amen."

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Lorenzo Snow
"Now supposing that Joseph had gone to work and built an ark, he would not have been accepted of the Lord, neither could he have saved the people of Egypt nor his father's house. When Noah was commanded to build an ark, supposing he had established granaries, he and his house could not have been saved.
"So in regard to ourselves, when duties are required at our hands, . . . whatever we may be required to do within the pale of the kingdom of the Almighty, we have to walk in the spirit of these requirements and perform them if we would gain power and influence with our God" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, p. 191).
