1123. Video of Elder Bruce R. McConkie's last testimony in April, 1985, General Conference, 12 days before he passed away.

As a special video for Easter Sunday, you would love to watch the final testimony of Elder Bruce R. McConkie, given in April Conference, 1985.  He passed away just 12 days later.  This is so impressive, I hope you enjoy it, and that it strengthens your testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ, whose Atonement and Resurrection we celebrate today on Easter Sunday.

Many years ago I had the opportunity and blessing to meet President David O. McKay in person.  I wish I could remember it more clearly.  The first time was with a Seminary class while I was in high school.  Growing up in St. George during that time, we didn't get to Salt Lake City often, and each spring the Seminary students took a trip up, and toured the Church Office building, and saw the Tabernacle, Salt Lake Temple, and other interesting places there.  The tall Church Office  building wasn't built for many years after.  I remember what a gracious and polite gentleman he was.  Around this same time, Wayne was on a mission in Sweden, and the highlight of his mission was having Pres. 681. The Election Day Fight, 178 years ago today, with my 2nd great grandfather John Lowe Butler, bodyguard to the Prophet Joseph Smith.

It was 178 years ago when the "Election Day" fight happened in Gallatin, Missouri.  The Brother John Butler, mentioned in the history below, was my 2nd great grandfather on my mother's line.   Read to the bottom, and I have included an entry about him I posted on January 14, 2014.  He was a bodyguard to the Prophet Joseph Smith, and quite a colorful character!  His wife, Caroline Farozine Skeen Butler also was a true pioneer woman.  In the  "labels" you can find more stories about them. 155. Anthony Jansen Van Sallee, son of the Pirate King, and a character himself!

                 ANTHONY JANSEN VAN SALLEE, 1607-1676                              by Hazel Van Dyke Roberts, PH.D.   I'm using the historical writing of Hazel Roberts, as she did a lot of research on it.  Anthony was the son of the Pirate King, Jan Jansen, told about in the last entry, # 154.  This is about an interesting part of early New England History.  New Amsterdam became the city New York when the English conquered the Dutch in 1664.       Anthony Jansen Van Salee was a unique, interesting, and  important figure in the early history of New Amsterdam,  He has been found to be the most unusual and interesting figure in the New Amsterdam records .
