1164. Army memories, and Wayne singing "You're A Grand Old Flag"!

My dear husband Wayne --Sept. 18th, 1930 to Feb. 21st, 2016 -- singing !  This was taken in our living room during a family celebration for our 60th wedding anniversary, in September, 2015.

Wayne always got along so well with kids!  This was taken in Austria.

I've always loved these pictures, most of which he sent me when we were writing letters at that time.

It was 178 years ago when the "Election Day" fight happened in Gallatin, Missouri.  The Brother John Butler, mentioned in the history below, was my 2nd great grandfather on my mother's line.   Read to the bottom, and I have included an entry about him I posted on January 14, 2014.  He was a bodyguard to the Prophet Joseph Smith, and quite a colorful character!  His wife, Caroline Farozine Skeen Butler also was a true pioneer woman.  In the  "labels" you can find more stories about them. 512.Can you believe? I'm 81 today! Also about Elder Renlund, and his Swedish parents, and our mission in Sweden.

Well, I've made it!  This morning at 7 a.m. I was officially 81 years old!   We have been so blessed!  Yes, we have had problems, but the blessings have so outweighed them!   This is the first family picture with all 9 of our children in it.  It was taken in 1975, just before our oldest son, Wayne, went on his mission. Fast forward many years, to just before we went on our mission to Sweden, in 1994. Now, our children, taken a year ago September, at my 80th birthday party! In order, they are from left to right, Wayne M., Delsy, Anita, Allen, Wayne, me (Pal), McKay, Angela, Tacy, Pam, and Jeremy.  One of our very special times was when we went together on a couple mission to Sweden, 1994 to 1996.   You can read about it on blog #51, posted on Dec. 27, 2013, in less than 2 months after I started this blog.  We were really excited to sustain Elder Renlund as an Apostle.  His parents were both from Sweden, and came to the Unite...

211. The Palmyra Temple -- The rest of the story -- (History)

Subject: Palmyra Temple--Rest of the Story T We rarely know all the details of a completed temple.   Much goes on in the months and years prior to its completion.   The Palmyra, NY temple is no exception and the story is one of great vision, insight and the Lord's intervention . The story starts years before, perhaps years before anyone thought to build a temple here.    In 1907 Apostle George Albert Smith purchased a portion of the original Smith farm for $16,000.   In 1915 he sold it to the Church for $1.00 and President Joseph F. Smith called Bro Willard Bean and wife Rebecca on a 5 year mission to manage the farm and be the first stationary missionaries in the area since the Saints removed to Ohio in 1830.  They served here for 25 years! making numerous improvements to the farm,  softening the attitudes of the local residents, helping the Church to acquire more of the farm, and even the hill we now call the Hill C...
