235. Ideas on how to get your children and family interested in Family History!

Image
I quite enjoyed this article I read in Meridian Magazine.  It gives good ideas of how you can get your children interested in genealogy, family history, and the stories of their ancestors.  I have loved this work since I was about 16 years old, and I spent many hours copying the old long family group sheets on an old copy machine, which my aunts had sent in over the years.  It is a very intense feeling to realize you are the "keeper of the stories" of Family History.  I truly felt that after my parents had passed away.   It is actually strange to be of the oldest generation alive in your family.  Hopefully one day, each of you will live long enough to have that challenge and blessing. 234. 59th wedding anniversary. Challenges come in multiple doses, like right now!

We finally got our phone and internet on -- after 4 long days.  That may not seem long, but it happened the day after Wayne got out of the hospital, and the next day was our family reunion with all of our 9 children coming to celebrate my 80th birthday, which will be on October 6th.  So our cell phone got a lot of use!  Wayne was weak and dizzy, and we took him to the hospital on Sunday, Sept. 14th, and he was there 5 days, with pneumonia and renal failure.  He came home on his 84th birthday, and is doing a bit better each day.  Also, in keeping with the post by Brian Mickelson below, I can't use my right arm, it's in a sling from a rotator cuff operation on Aug. 25th, and I probably will have to wear the sling for 2 to 4 more weeks.  Before Wayne went in the hospital, he was helping me!  I have to try and do everything with my left hand, and I am right-handed! This is our entire family who were together last Saturday, Sept. 20th, 2014.  Fr...

233. WAYNE AND BLAINE ECKMAN'S 84TH BIRTHDAYS! # 109 REVISITED.

Image
TODAY IS WAYNE'S AND BLAINE'S 84TH BIRTHDAY.  I'M RE-POSTING ENTRY # 109, AS I WILL BE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL SOON TO BE WITH HIM .  BUT HE IS SCHEDULED TO COME HOME THIS AFTERNOON.  HE WILL HAVE SEVERAL PROBLEMS WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE FOLLOWED UP WITH DOCTORS.  BUT WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL HE HAS RECOVERED AS MUCH AS HE HAS.  THIS WAS FIRST POSTED ON MARCH 1, 2014. These are pictures through the years of the identical twins, Blaine D and Wayne D Eckman.   Blaine was about 15 minutes older than Wayne, and born at home.  Read of them first in blog # 3.   Then their father Roy Waldamer Eckman's story is in blog # 93.  Their mother Gladys Dayton Eckman is told about in blogs #106 and #107.   More of their lives will come in the future.  This is a record of  photos through the ages!   Some of them have been in previous blogs, but it is nice to get them together here, chronologically.   They were born on Septem...

232. How wonderful to have friends, and relatives who encourage us, especially when we're down.

Image
DEAR FRIENDS, BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL FRIENDS!  MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL SINCE SUNDAY, WITH PNEUMONIA IN HIS RIGHT LUNG, AND FAILING KIDNEYS.  HE MAY STILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR HIS 84TH BIRTHDAY ON THURSDAY -- SEPT. 18TH. I HAD A ROTATOR CUFF SHOULDER OPERATION 3 WEEKS AGO, AND CAN'T DRIVE YET.  KIND FRIENDS AND RELATIVES HAVE DRIVEN ME TO THE HOSPITAL AND THE GROCERY STORE, AND OFFERED OTHER HELP.  I HOPE I CAN SOMEDAY HELP OTHERS AS I HAVE BEEN HELPED. BELOW ARE SOME BEAUTIFUL THOUGHTS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP. 231. An entry over 6 months ago revisited--telling a brief history of our lives.

Image
Originally this was blog # 120--updated a bit. I guess from time to time I should tell some about our own lives, Pal and Wayne Eckman.   Actually my full name is Paralee Miles (maiden name) Eckman, and Wayne's is Wayne D Eckman.   I was born Oct. 6, 1934, in St. George, Utah and Wayne was born Sept. 18th, 1930, in Murray, Utah, just south of Salt Lake City, in the same valley.  I have noticed some of our readers live in foreign countries, and that is fascinating to me!  How small our wonderful world is!   And I truly feel love and friendship for each one of you, whether we have met or not.  That seems to be something that comes with membership in the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!      This photo was on our wedding day, Sept. 24, 1955.  Since then we now have nine children, 29 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. I grew up in St. George, when it was only about 5,000 people, and the Temple was on the so...
