I really liked this article from LDS Living on October 14, 2014. 5 Powerful Scriptures in 5 Words or Less EXCERPTED FROM  SERMONS IN A SENTENCE  BY JOHN BYTHEWAY  Joseph Fielding Smith changed John Bytheway's life in five words when he said, "We read scriptures too fast." Check out these five "sermons in a sentence" from the scriptures that could change your life, too! 1. Redemption cometh "Teach them that  redemption cometh  through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. Amen."  -Mosiah 16:15 Only two words, a prophecy full of hope. “Redemption cometh” is a promise that has been anticipated and relied on by God’s children for millennia. Ancient prophets spoke before Jesus came. Many believed the hopeful words of Abinadi and others who prophesied that “redemption cometh”—a promise that everything that had been spoken about the coming Redeemer for four millennia would, one day, come to pass. Redemption cometh from s...

255. 5 Keys to Understanding the Book of Revelation -- which tells about the last days, and the Second Coming of Christ.

This was on LDS Living on Oct. 15. 2014.  It seems appropriate for the Sabbath Day tomorrow.  It is so important to study the scriptures, and often the Apostles or Prophet give us ideas on how to understand some particularly hard scriptures.  I love to read the writings of Elder Bruce R. McConkie.  He and I share a common great great grandfather, John Lowe Butler.  You can read about him in entries:  # 66, on January 10, 2014, and # 206, on August 7, 2014.  There are several about his wife, Caroline Farozine Skeen, also a remarkable pioneer.  You can read about them by finding them in the "labels" section on the left of the blog.  Keys to Understanding the Book of Revelation ERIK BRANDT - 4 HOURS AGO Elder Bruce R. McConkie answered the important question about our ability and obligation to study and understand the Revelation of John in preparation for the Second Coming of the Lord: “Certainly why else did the Lord reveal it? The...

254. From mormonnerd.com, comes this great article: "3 Tiny Words That Can Bring Huge Blessings To Your Marriage."

This is a good follow-up to the entry 2 days ago, # 252, about ways you could be unfaithful to your spouse without realizing it.  We all want to have wonderful, kind, eternal marriages.  Today my husband helped me with the dishes, cleaning the stove, and other household duties, which seemed so helpful and unselfish!  I'm still on physical therapy for my shoulder, and he is very aware of things that would make my arm hurt.  He is an 84 year old sweetheart! This is in LDS Living on Oct. 17, 2014, and is from -- mormonnerd.com 3 Tiny Words That Can Bring Huge Blessings To Your Marriage 16. Oct. 2014 / Someone once said that the secret to a happy marriage is: How you fold your towels. Say what? What that means is that successful marriages are built on the little things–like folding towels the way your wife prefers so they fit in the cabinets. It’s the small things that over time create the happiest, most loving, eternal mar...

253. A first! Recipes to Glazed Apple Cookies, and White Chicken Enchiladas

Image
As a change of pace today, I'm including 2 recipes that look good!  Since I have had my shoulder operation I haven't felt like cooking.  Also for several months before that when I had gastritis I didn't cook much.  I was getting into the mental idea of going to an assisted living, getting meals on wheels, or something like that.  Our meals were so routine and uninteresting, and I got so tired of cooking.  After 59 years of marriage, it is something I get tired of!     I have had a change of medicine that seems to be helping me feel better, and yesterday I wanted to cook!  I did make the cookies, and they were delicious.  I plan to make the White Chicken Enchiladas on Sunday.  We usually have a family dinner at our house with local family, but I've relied on the same few easy recipes for so long.  I imagine they are tired of them! Both recipes don't use very unusual ingredients.   I won't do this often, but hopefully so...
