I love wise sayings, and I love reading the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament.  To truly understand life, people, and above all the Gospel, includes an understanding of truth -- human nature, and God's dealings with us.  I'm sure it involves much more also.   Tonight, we have another dear grandchild, this time our grandson Jacob (Jake) Lieske, graduating from Snow Canyon High School.  Then he will continue to work on his preparation for his mission, and entering the Provo MTC on August 13, 2014, to learn Indonesian, and go to Indonesia on an LDS mission.  I remember both Wayne and I telling young people about age 18, that in the next 10 years they would be making decisions that would affect the rest of their lives, and also eternity. -- Mission or not?, marriage, choice of a profession, etc. etc.  These are truly crucial ages to make wise choices.  Some unwise choices will steer them away from happiness and peace, and often, unless ...

NOT AN EASY ROAD TO TRAVEL ---- Do we devote ourselves to "beggarly things of the world?"  These are some very profound thoughts.  It can be so easy to waste our time, talents, or interests in things which are absolutely of no worth to us.  These days there are so many things we could take up our time with, and it truly is important to judge wisely.  For "time flies on wings of lightning -- we cannot call it back!.  My thought for the day. I ran across a couple of interesting articles on LDS Living this morning.  The first is helping those with financial needs when we suspect we will only be supporting unwise spending habits and unhealthy addictions.   I like his ideas. I haven't felt very good for a few weeks -- gastritis!  I guess taking too many ibuprofen or aspirin helped it come on.  The medicine sometimes helps, and other times may not.  The main thing I am not enjoying is the nausea I feel often in the mornings, but by lunch it is usually mostly gone. Time will tell, but I have had Priesthood blessings that have said I would fully recover.  Sometimes our desires and prayers take longer to materialize than others!   I have enjoyed writing about my mother's life recently, and today will be a rather short entry -- This Video of Pal, Vina, and Mavis singing, "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" was taken at Mavis' home in Salt Lake in 2012.  Not bad for 77, 76, and 72 year olds!  (Now 2 years older!)   But in our younger days, we sounded much better!                                       Then! -- 1...

    We all wrote memories of our home life, which we gave to Mother on her 80th birthday.  I couldn't find mine, so my entry below was written in 1911, when we wrote the book of their lives.  This time, I won't underline certain parts -- It takes quite a bit of time which I don't have today.               MEMORIES OF MOTHER ON HER 80TH BIRTHDAY, BY MAVIS      I have many fond memories of you Mother, from my childhood years.  Some of these are concepts I had about you.  For example, I remember feeling overwhelmed about how hard you worked.  I remember the long days, the Saturdays, filled with cleaning, ironing, baking, and I remember feeling that you worked so very, very hard – which you did.  I was always so proud of you and the fact you were such a good woman.  You sewed so many lovely dresses for each of us.  I always felt lucky that I could usually have a new dress when I wan...

This may seem a bit long, and can be read in more than one sitting.  I've put together several subjects which were too short by themselves. My mother Ruth wrote about the major events in her life, and these always included her parents and/or husband and children.  She was very involved when my dear sister Vina had a serious operation.  This is what she wrote: Vina’s Operation, 1981       In December, 1981, Vina was working at Scholzen’s.   After Christmas she had a very serious operation.   Somehow her intestines got a knot tied in them.  The doctors tried for days to avoid an operation, but when he did decide, he operated at 2 A.M. because he was too concerned to wait till morning.  Even after the operation it seemed complications might cause more serious problems.      For 10 days or longer she was fed intravenously and was not even allowed a sip of water.  During this time the doctor said WALK!  So e...
